Synopsis

Rock 'n' Roll, Damn It! is a comedy / music short film about passion, apathy and the absurd difficulty of forming a rock n roll band in the present day.

Vag, a garage punk enthusiast, is determined to form the ultimate rock ‘n’ roll band. But as his bandmates fail to share the same level of commitment, the dream becomes a comic struggle between obsession, frustration and the reality of people who are simply not there to play along.

Director statement

“At its core, this is a film about passion versus apathy—about the struggle to hold onto something meaningful in a world that doesn’t seem to care.”

The film was created as part of the Film Studies program at the Hellenic Open University, under the course Cinematography I, and was inspired by the static, observational style of Coffee and Cigarettes.

Visual and tonal approach

The film uses a static, observational visual style, allowing the framing to highlight character dynamics and the protagonist’s growing frustration. The black-and-white image supports the stripped-down, minimal and garage-like atmosphere of the story.

Its comedy comes from contrast: the protagonist’s deep commitment to rock ‘n’ roll versus the lack of commitment around him. The result is a small, direct film about DIY energy, creative stubbornness and the humor of trying to build something when no one else is equally invested.
