Synopsis

Play Deaf / Κάνε ότι δεν άκουσες is a short student thriller about moral pressure, hesitation and responsibility. An ordinary person hears signs of possible severe domestic violence from a neighboring apartment and must decide whether to intervene, ignore what he hears, or remain trapped in uncertainty.

The film uses a contained situation, fixed framing and silence to create tension around a simple but difficult question: what does someone do when violence may be happening nearby, but the safest choice is to pretend not to hear?

Director statement

“The film was created as a first semester project in the Directing course of Studies in Film Writing, Practice and Research at the Hellenic Open University.”

The project was made under strict formal limitations: no dialogue, no voice-over, no intertitles, no music and a fixed camera. The shooting was completed with virtually no budget and with the help of friends for camera and acting.

Production note

The film was completed as an early directing exercise, but it was developed as a complete short film with a clear narrative structure. Although brief, the script was built around a three-act approach, using suspense, sound, silence and moral uncertainty to shape the viewer’s experience.

In addition to writing and directing, Yorgos Keramydas edited the film and later added his own music and end credits. The project also reflects an early interest in suspense cinema and controlled visual storytelling.
